The body of an unidentified man was found in river Jhelum near Jamia Bridge in the Sopore area of Baramulla district on Friday morning.

According to the reports, locals spotted the body floating in the water near Jamia Bridge in Sopore on Friday. They quickly informed the police and after being informed the police team reached the spot and recovered the body. It is reported that some fishermen also helped police to recover the body.

A police official also confirmed to various news agencies that the body of an elderly person had been recovered out of the Jhelum River and taken to SDH Sopore for identification.

The official further said that a case has been filed at the Sopore police station in accordance with the applicable legal provisions, and further inquiries have been initiated in this regard.
