Bhubaneswar: In a significant operation, the Odisha Police Special Task Force (STF) has apprehended a Kashmiri youth suspected of having ties with anti-national elements.

The arrested individual has been identified as Sayed Ishaan Bukhari, also known as Ishaan Bukhari, hailing from Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir. The 37-year-old is accused of posing as a neuro specialist doctor, an army doctor, an officer in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), and a close associate of a high-ranking NIA official, allegedly engaging in fraudulent activities, according to the STF.

“The accused was found to be impersonating a Neuro Specialist, an Army Doctor, an officer in PMO, a close associate of high-ranking NIA officials and others. Numerous forged documents like medical degree certificates issued by Cornel University of USA, Canadian Health Services Institute, and others were also seized,” STF IG JN Pankaj told reporters.

The arrest took place during a raid in Neulpur, Dharmasala area of Jajpur district in Odisha, where law enforcement agency seized numerous incriminating materials, including over 100 forged documents such as foreign medical degree certificates, signed documents, affidavits, bonds, identity cards, ATM cards, blank cheques, Aadhaar cards, and visiting cards.

Investigations by the STF revealed that the accused had reportedly married 6-7 women from different parts of India, including Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Odisha. Operating under the guise of a doctor with foreign medical degrees, he allegedly maintained romantic relationships with multiple women.

Additionally, the probe agency discovered that Ishaan had connections with suspicious individuals in Kerala and some Pakistani nationals. He is also wanted by the Kashmir Police in connection with a case of cheating and forgery, with a non-bailable warrant pending against him.

Briefing to Media STF IG Jaynarayan Oankaj said that “Accused Ishaan Bukhari had links with some suspects from Kerala and Pakistan. He also had US and Canadian Medical Certificates and impersonated himslef as PMO officer and NIA. Ishan Bukhari was in touch with ISI. Bukhari has anti-national activities. Suspect Bukhari was living in Odisha since 2018. STF is probing more about Bukhari.”
