Baramulla: In a successful operation conducted by the Wildlife Department, a live leopard was captured in the Sharakwara Wagoora area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday morning. The swift response followed a call reporting the presence of the leopard in the Sharakwara region. Wildlife officials managed to secure the wild cat without causing any damage or injury to residents.

This incident comes in the wake of growing concerns about the potential threat posed by leopards to local residents. Over the past month, several instances of leopard sightings have been reported in various locations across the Baramulla district, heightening apprehensions among the community regarding their safety.

Emphasizing the urgency of addressing the recurring issue, authorities are taking steps to relocate the captured leopard to a safer location. Once relocated, the wild cat will be released back into its natural habitat, ensuring a harmonious coexistence between wildlife and the local population.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any further leopard sightings promptly to the Wildlife Department. Authorities are also considering conservation measures and community awareness programs to mitigate potential human-wildlife conflicts in the region, fostering a balanced and secure environment for both residents and wildlife.
