Baramulla: Rabia Rashid, a young woman from Ladoora Rafiabad with a B.Sc. in Mathematics and former trainer at Byju’s, has taken a bold step in an unconventional direction. Breaking stereotypes, she has ventured into sheep farming with the support of the Jammu & Kashmir government under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), receiving 50 sheep to kickstart her business.
Rabia expressed pride in her journey, highlighting the importance of breaking social taboos around women in agriculture and livestock. “It’s fulfilling to be among the few women in J&K who are pursuing sheep farming,” Rabia said, emphasizing her passion for the industry. She credited her parents’ unwavering support for helping
her embark on this path.
Acknowledging the District Sheep Husbandry Office Baramulla for their guidance and assistance, Rabia encouraged other unemployed youth to consider entrepreneurship. “Starting your own venture is rewarding,” she added, urging her peers to seek out government initiatives and take advantage of available resources.
Rabia’s story stands as an inspiring example for many young women and men in Jammu & Kashmir, proving that ambition and determination can help break societal norms and foster self-reliance.
