DIG flags off Kashmir-to-Kanyakumari cycle rally

Srinagar: A cycle rally from Kashmir to Kanyakumari aimed at promoting a pollution-free India campaign was flagged off by DIG Central Kashmir Range (CKR) Rajiv Pande today. The rally covering a distance of 4,048 km began from the iconic Ghanta Ghar Lal Chowk in Srinagar.

DIG Pande praised the participants including two retired senior citizens aged over 50, for undertaking this ambitious journey to spread awareness about pollution and fitness. He  further added that these citizen’s have set an example with their decision to cycle across the country. This initiative, he noted, is being described as both remarkable and commendable.

The rally’s message is to encourage the public to reduce their carbon footprint by promoting cycling as an eco-friendly alternative to motorized transport. The participants also highlighted the health benefits of physical activity by linking fitness to the reduction of social issues like drug abuse.

DIG Pande emphasized the importance of fitness in combating lifestyle issues among the youth. “When you engage in physical activities, the need for harmful substances like drugs naturally diminishes. This initiative is a call to our youth to embrace a healthier lifestyle” he added.

One of the participants, around 67-year-old retired individual, shared his passion for cycling and encouraged everyone especially the youth to embrace nature and physical activity through cycling.
