Srinagar: As part of the ongoing Ashra-e-Maghfirat in the holy month of Ramadan, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq delivered a sermon at Masjid Rehmat, Lal Bazar, focusing on the concept of Nafs (the self) and its purification in light of Islamic teachings.
Addressing the gathering, Mirwaiz highlighted that Ramadan is a time for spiritual reflection, self-discipline, and seeking Allah’s mercy. He elaborated on the different states of Nafs—Nafs-e-Ammarah (the commanding self), Nafs-e-Lawwama (the self-reproaching self), and Nafs-e-Mutmainnah (the contented self)—urging people to strive for self-purification through taqwa (God-consciousness), prayer, and repentance.
He emphasised that controlling one’s desires and ego in accordance with the Quran and Sunnah leads to inner peace and closeness to the Almighty. He encouraged the faithful to utilise this blessed month for introspection, repentance, and strengthening their relationship with Allah.
A large number of devotees attended the sermon, seeking guidance on self-improvement and spiritual elevation during this sacred period.
Meanwhile, in connection with Youm-ul-Badr and the death anniversary of Mujajir-e-Millat Mufassir-e-Quran Mirwaiz Yousuf Shah (RA), Mirwaiz Umar Farooq will deliver a sermon at the historic Aali Masjid, Eidgah, tomorrow before Asr prayers.
