Baramulla: The Jal Shakti Department, Baramulla, has issued a stern warning to consumers, particularly commercial establishments, to clear their outstanding water bills within the next four days to avoid disconnection.
Speaking to reporters, Executive Engineer of the Baramulla division, Er Aijaz Ahmed, stated that the department has no alternative but to initiate disconnection of water supplies for defaulters. He clarified that the action would commence with commercial units and later be extended to domestic users if dues remain unpaid.
“Clear your outstanding bills, or we will be compelled to disconnect your water supply,” warned Er Aijaz, urging those with unregistered connections to regularise them immediately to prevent punitive action.
He further emphasised that consumers with pending dues exceeding Rs 10,000 will be the first to face disconnection. To avoid inconvenience, he encouraged consumers to make their payments online.
Additionally, Er Aijaz issued a strong warning against the misuse of potable water, stressing that legal action, including the filing of an FIR, would be initiated against those found using tap water for non-essential activities such as watering kitchen gardens and washing vehicles. “We will not hesitate to take stringent action against violators,” he asserted.
He also urged consumers to use water judiciously, reiterating that no one would be granted special treatment in this regard. The Jal Shakti Department remains firm on ensuring compliance and responsible use of water resources.
