Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir’s Minister for Social Welfare, Sakina Itoo, has formally requested the National Commission for Women to extend the tenure of Special Cells for Women in the region by at least one year.
With the Commission’s support for these cells set to conclude on 31 March, thousands of women who rely on these services now face uncertainty.
Highlighting the importance of these cells, the Minister stressed their vital role in assisting women in distress. She also pointed out that, alongside these cells, One Stop Centres continue to offer essential services, including legal aid, counselling, medical assistance, and shelter.
The Minister’s appeal aims to ensure that vulnerable women in Jammu and Kashmir do not lose access to these critical support systems.
