Kupwara: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah on Monday visited Tangdhar in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district to express solidarity with the families affected by recent cross-border shelling.

Accompanied by party leaders including senior NC leader Qaisar Jamsheed Lone, Abdullah interacted with the affected residents and assured them of all possible support. He condemned the loss of lives and damage to property due to shelling from across the Line of Control (LoC), calling it a humanitarian tragedy.

“We stand with the people of Tangdhar during this difficult time. Their pain and suffering cannot be ignored. It is the government’s responsibility to ensure proper relief, rehabilitation, and long-term security for these residents,” Abdullah said during the visit.

He also urged both the Centre and the Jammu and Kashmir administration to take concrete measures for the safety of border dwellers, including construction of community bunkers, compensation for damaged property, and rehabilitation for displaced families.

Locals expressed their grievances to the visiting delegation, highlighting the need for better infrastructure, regular supply of essential goods, and enhanced medical facilities in the region. Abdullah assured that these issues would be raised at the appropriate forums.

The NC leader’s visit comes in the wake of heightened tensions along the LoC, which have left several families in border areas displaced and traumatised.
