Baramulla: On 26 May 2025, Deputy Commissioner of Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, officially handed over two newly acquired water tankers to the Jal Shakti Department at the DC Office Complex in Baramulla. The vehicles, with capacities of 9,000 and 6,000 litres respectively, were procured at a cost of ₹55 lakh, funded through award money received from NITI Aayog under the Aspirational District Programme.
The ceremony was attended by the Additional District Development Commissioner, Joint Director Planning, Senior Engineer, Executive Engineer of the Jal Shakti Department, and other officials. These tankers are expected to significantly bolster the department’s ability to address drinking water shortages, particularly in areas awaiting the commissioning of piped water supply under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
Deputy Commissioner Sherpa emphasised that the timely addition of these tankers, especially with the onset of summer, will help bridge service delivery gaps in remote and water-deficient regions, ensuring residents have access to safe and adequate drinking water.
