Altaf Bukhari meets LG Manoj Sinha, seeks urgent relief measures for farmers

He stressed the need for financial compensation, crop insurance coverage, and restoration of irrigation infrastructure to ensure long-term support for the agrarian sector, which forms the backbone of the region’s economy.

Srinagar: Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Sunday called on Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhavan in Srinagar to discuss the pressing concerns of farmers affected by recent natural calamities across the region.

During the meeting, Bukhari expressed deep concern over the damage caused to standing crops, orchards, and agricultural land due to unseasonal rainfall, hailstorms, and flash floods in various parts of the Valley. He urged the administration to take immediate steps to assess the losses and provide timely relief to the affected farming community.

He stressed the need for financial compensation, crop insurance coverage, and restoration of irrigation infrastructure to ensure long-term support for the agrarian sector, which forms the backbone of the region’s economy.

Bukhari also highlighted the necessity of activating disaster response teams and deploying agricultural experts to guide and assist farmers during times of crisis. He emphasised that the farmers, who have suffered repeated setbacks in recent years, deserve urgent attention and policy support from the government.

In response, LG Sinha assured Bukhari that the administration is closely monitoring the situation and will take all necessary measures to address the grievances of the farming community. He affirmed the government’s commitment to protecting farmers’ interests and mitigating the impact of natural disasters on rural livelihoods.

The meeting comes at a time when widespread agricultural distress has triggered appeals from several quarters for government intervention, especially as weather-related disruptions continue to affect Kashmir’s delicate horticulture and farming ecosystem.
