MeT warns of heavy rain, flash flood risk in J&K

On July 18 and 19, the weather is likely to improve slightly, but light rain may continue in some parts. Another spell of moderate rainfall is forecast from July 20 to 24, with the possibility of waterlogging and disruption in essential services.

Srinagar: The Meteorological Department has issued a fresh weather advisory for Jammu and Kashmir, warning of moderate to heavy rainfall and a heightened risk of flash floods over the next few days.

According to the forecast, scattered to widespread light to moderate rain is expected on July 16 and 17, with a possibility of heavy showers at isolated places, particularly in Jammu Division and parts of south Kashmir. Thunderstorms and lightning have also been predicted.

The department cautioned that the expected rainfall may cause flash floods, landslides and waterlogging in low-lying areas. Commuters are advised to exercise caution, especially in hilly and vulnerable zones.
