Landslide injures pilgrims on old Vaishno Devi track in Katra

Officials say conditions were challenging due to continuous heavy rain, but an earth‑mover was promptly deployed to clear debris and reopen the path . District authorities have advised pilgrims to avoid the old route until it’s deemed safe.

Reasi: Heavy rainfall on Monday morning triggered a landslide along the old pilgrimage route to the Vaishno Devi shrine in Reasi district. Around 8:30 AM, loose debris fell near Gulshan Ka Langar, close to the pony-rider registration point at Banganga. Four pilgrims sustained injuries as rockfall and soil engulfed part of the trail.

Rescue workers, including shrine board staff, police, and SDRF teams, swiftly evacuated the injured. They were taken to the community health centre in Katra, with some later transferred to Narayana Hospital as a precaution . Luckily, there were no fatalities reported.
