Srinagar: After a temporary closure caused by landslides and heavy rain, authorities have reopened the vital Srinagar–Jammu Highway (NH‑44) for one‑way traffic. Passenger vehicles are now allowed to use the road while clearance operations continue for heavier vehicles that had been stranded in the Ramban–Banihal section.
Officials have implemented strict traffic discipline measures: drivers must adhere to lane regulations and travel during daylight hours only. Heavy vehicles and transport trucks will be allowed once sections affected by landslides and debris are fully cleared.
The highway, stretching approximately 250 km, is the only all‑weather road connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of India. Its reopening brings significant relief to commuters and ensures crucial supply lines are maintained.
