Srinagar: The dry weather prevailing in Jammu and Kashmir is anticipated to persist until January 23, according to a statement from a Meteorological (MeT) official. Feeble Western Disturbances (WDs) are predicted to approach on the 16th and 20th evenings, leading to generally cloudy weather with light snow over isolated higher reaches. However, from January 21-23, the region is expected to experience generally dry conditions.
The MeT official also highlighted the redevelopment of fog with cold day conditions from tomorrow onwards until January 16 over the plains of Jammu Division. Despite this, freezing weather conditions have eased, with Srinagar recording a low of 0.2 degrees Celsius, 2.3 degrees Celsius above normal for this time of the year.
Other regions in Kashmir also experienced milder temperatures compared to the previous night. Qazigund recorded a minimum of minus 2.0 degrees Celsius, Pahalgam recorded minus 0.6 degrees Celsius, and Kokernag recorded minus 1.2 degrees Celsius. Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 0.3 degrees Celsius, and Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 1.0 degrees Celsius, both above normal temperatures for their respective locations.
The MeT official mentioned that generally dry weather is expected until January 23, providing some relief from the freezing conditions. The region may witness a respite from the dry spell with mild weather changes under the influence of approaching Western Disturbances.
