Rafiabad: In a decisive crackdown on the rampant illegal sand mining in Rafiabad, authorities from the Geology and Mining Department, in coordination with allied departments, cut access roads to various sand mines in Dangiwacha tehsil. The action was taken under the directions of Tehsildar Dangiwacha, NT Dangiwacha Manzoor Ahmad Koka and NT Hardu Chanam Anwar Ul Haq.

The operation, led on ground by NT Hardu Chanam Anwar Ul Haq, specifically targeted areas around Nallah Hamal—an ecologically sensitive zone known for its trout population. Illegal sand extraction from this water body has raised concerns among environmentalists and locals alike due to its devastating impact on the region’s geography and forest areas.
Speaking during the operation, Anwar Ul Haq stated that the sand mafia has wreaked havoc on the natural landscape of Rafiabad, even encroaching upon forest areas to extract sand illegally. He warned those involved of serious consequences if the unlawful activities continued, asserting his commitment to protect the region’s environment.
“We will not allow the pride of Rafiabad, Nallah Hamal, to be destroyed. This Nallah is not only home to trout fish but is also crucial to our region’s ecological balance,” he said.
He also revealed that multiple complaints have been received from residents about the reckless driving by tractor operators involved in the sand trade. “They drive at high speed during the day, causing panic among commuters and pedestrians and operate throughout the night, disturbing the sleep of local residents,” Anwar Ul Haq added.
Locals have expressed relief over the government’s action and hope that such steps will be followed up with regular monitoring to curb illegal activities and restore the environmental sanctity of Dangiwacha tehsil.
The administration has assured that the crackdown will continue and urged citizens to report any illegal sand mining or related activities in their vicinity.
