After a four-year hiatus, the current Hurriyat Chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq will preside over Friday prayers at the revered Jamia Masjid Nowhatta in Srinagar, according to official sources.
It is reported that the government made the choice following careful consideration and consultation with several law enforcement authorities.
Notably, Mirwaiz was put under house arrest on August 4, 2019, the day the Indian government invalidated Articles 370 and 35A and split the State into the two Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh.
