Ladakh: Under tight security on Sunday, voting for the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council began. JKNC is now in the lead in at least two of the council’s constituencies.
Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council elections in Kargil are being prepared for counting. To ensure efficient counting, security has been increased everywhere around the counting centre. Candidates from several parties also visit the centre for results, according to an official.
This time, over 77 per cent of voters turned up in the Kargil district as per the cumulative figure of 3rd round of voting for the 5th LAHDC elections.
Following a decision from the Supreme Court, the Ladakh administration declared a revised schedule for elections to the fifth LAHDC in the Kargil area earlier last month.
After the Supreme Court overturned the UT administration’s earlier election notification because NC candidates were unable to submit nominations, it also reinstated the National Conference’s party symbol for the impending election.
Elections for 26 seats in the 30-member LAHDC were held on October 4 in accordance with the announcement.
