Srinagar: As a precautionary measure, the historic Mughal road and the strategic Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri (SSG) road have been closed for vehicle traffic due to recent snowfall, according to officials on Sunday. The Mughal road, connecting south Kashmir’s Shopian district with Poonch and Rajouri in Jammu division, was shut down because of the accumulation of fresh snow.
Similarly, the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road, a crucial route to Ladakh, was also suspended due to snow accumulation. Snow clearance operations are underway on both roads to ensure safe passage. Despite these closures, traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway remains unaffected.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is actively involved in snow clearance operations at various passes in north Kashmir, responding to the fresh snowfall in the upper reaches of the Kashmir valley on Saturday evening, which resulted in the closure of several roads.
