Mumbai: Actor Saif Ali Khan has been injured following a burglary attempt at his residence in Bandra (West), Mumbai, which he shares with his wife Kareena Kapoor. The actor is currently undergoing emergency surgery.
The incident took place at approximately 2:30 am on Thursday when the actor was at home with his family. Saif sustained injuries while attempting to protect his house help when the intruder attacked him with a knife.
The Bandra police stated that the burglar fled the scene after the household members woke up. Efforts are underway to locate the perpetrator with several police teams formed to apprehend him. The police are also in the process of registering an FIR.
Police Comment
A senior IPS officer confirmed the incident stating, “Saif Ali Khan has been admitted to the Lilavati hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. It is not clear yet if he is stabbed or injured in the scuffle with the robber. We have been investigating the matter. The Mumbai crime branch is also conducting a parallel investigation into the incident.”
Details of His Injuries
Dr Niraj Uttamani, COO of Lilavati Hospital stated, “Saif was attacked by an unidentified person in his house. He was brought in at 3:30 am in Lilavati. He has six injuries, two of which are deeper. One of the injuries is closer to his spine. We are operating on him. He is being operated upon by Neurosurgeon Nitin Dange, cosmetic surgeon Leena Jain and anaesthetist Nisha Gandhi. We will be tell the extent of the damage only after the surgery is done.”
Dr Uttamani also mentioned another injury on Saif’s neck, which is under evaluation. He added that surgery commenced at 5:30 am and is still ongoing.
A doctor at Lilavati Hospital, who requested anonymity, informed leading news portal that a piece of the knife was found in Saif’s body and doctors are continuing to assess the damage. However, the actor’s ability to move his limbs indicates that his spine is unharmed.
Hospital sources revealed to another news portal that one of the injuries, requiring 10 stitches was deep but did not affect the spine. “He was very lucky that the stabs have not affected any vital organs. It appears to have been attacked by knife and he was thwarting off a robbery attempt. Two injuries are deep, two are mid and two are superficial”, the report further reads, quoting source.
The actor’s family, including his wife Kareena Kapoor and their two sons, Taimur (8) and Jeh (4), are currently with him at the hospital.
