Director Sericulture reviews district-wise progress of department in Kashmir

The meeting also examined the production of silkworm seed (F1, P1) against the targets for 2024-25 and deliberated on the proposed targets for 2025-26, ensuring sufficient seed availability for sericulture farmers.

Srinagar: Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, IAS, Director of Sericulture J&K, chaired a detailed review meeting today at the Directorate of Sericulture Development Department, Tulsi Bagh, Srinagar, to assess the district-wise progress of sericulture activities in the Kashmir Division. The meeting focused on evaluating the implementation of key initiatives aimed at strengthening the sericulture sector across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

During the meeting, an in-depth review was conducted on various critical aspects of sericulture development. The progress of field plantation activities under departmental initiatives, including Silk Samagra-2 and other schemes for the years 2023-24 and 2024-25, was thoroughly analysed. Special emphasis was placed on the survival rate of plantations to ensure effective outcomes.

The Director emphasised the need to achieve the targets for 2025-26, with a particular focus on expanding and sustaining the sector. District-wise targets for the distribution of P1 and F1 silkworm seed for both the spring and autumn seasons of 2025-26 were discussed, along with an assessment of the expected cocoon crop production across various districts. Bhat highlighted the importance of maintaining high-quality production standards and providing support to silkworm rearers.

The meeting also examined the production of silkworm seed (F1, P1) against the targets for 2024-25 and deliberated on the proposed targets for 2025-26, ensuring sufficient seed availability for sericulture farmers. Additionally, the Physical and Financial Status of the Capex budget for 2024-25 was reviewed, and detailed discussions were held regarding planned expenditures to enhance sericulture infrastructure.

The implementation of the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) for 2023-24 and 2024-25 was also assessed, with a focus on formulating district-wise action plans for 2025-26. Similarly, the Physical and Financial Status of the Silk Samagra-2 scheme for 2023-24 and 2024-25 was evaluated, with emphasis on achieving set targets and preparing comprehensive action plans for the upcoming year.

Bhat underscored the importance of timely execution of all sericulture-related activities and urged concerned officers to work diligently to meet the set targets. He stressed the need for close coordination between field functionaries and silkworm rearers to ensure the effective implementation of government schemes. He reiterated the department’s commitment to promoting sericulture as a viable and sustainable economic activity for the farming community in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Director concluded the meeting by directing all officials to ensure that targets for the upcoming year are met within stipulated timelines while maintaining high standards of quality in sericulture operations across the Kashmir Division.

The meeting was attended by senior officers, including Additional Directors of the Sericulture Development Department, Kashmir, Development Officer ISDP Kashmir, Project Executive Officers, Srinagar, all District Sericulture Officers, Managers of Seed Stations in Kashmir Division, field officers, and key officials, including the Accounts Officer, Research Officer, and representatives from the Technical Section of the Directorate. They provided valuable inputs regarding the progress of various schemes and discussed strategies for future growth.
